What’s the most romantic thing you’ve done for your wife?
Parveen (Shahni) will laugh if you ask her this. Although I have a quirky sense of romance, I’m not a hardcore romantic at all.
Define romance.
When my friends serenade women, they take them out for a nice posh candle lit dinner. I prefer to take Parveen out to a panipuriwala, drive her down to Goa in the rain or go trekking.
Have you ever cooked a meal for your wife?
I’ve tried to fry an egg for her. I’ll burn the kitchen down if I try anything else.
What do Parveen and you fight about most?
Stupid little things, She’s not intrusive about my work. She might scowl if I have to do yet another kissing scene. That’s when she gets a little pissed off sometimes.
Do you insist on including a kissing scene in your contract?
(Laughs) No. I don’t want another kissing scene. I’m always cribbing on the set and these days the girls in my films are amused. They probably think I’m some sort of pervert.
What do we not know about you?
I’ve got a really gross sense of humour. I don’t create good first impressions. I do have a sense of humour but it’s great if someone gets it. Sometimes I use snide remarks and one-liners to defuse a situation but it might come across as rude to some. I’m sarcastic about everything, I look sarcastically even at myself.
One thing you hate and one thing you love about yourself?
I hate the fact that sometimes I’m a bit too cautious. And I love the fact that sometimes everything seems okay with me. I’m fairly tolerant towards most things.
Do you have any fetish?
Ahhh, I do. But I can’t speak about most of them. I don’t want to sound anymore dysfunctional than I already do. I’m a sucker for cars and watches. I’ve seen the evolution of video games, since I started off in the ’80s. So I’m a hardcore video game fanatic.
Has anyone from the industry hit on you?
(Sheepishly) I’m not answering this one; it could land me in trouble.
Tell us one crazy fan incident.
At midnight, a woman visited my film set, invited me for dinner at her place and handed me a gift. After the set wrapped up at 5 am, I suddenly remembered the gift. It turned out to be the most bizarre and unexpected thing I’ve ever received. It was her lace underwear with her number and perfume.
Have you ever annoyed the daylights out of your co-star?
Yes, but I never let it get to a boiling point. I can see when their heat levels are rising. I stop there.
A piece of advice you’d like to give Mallika
Sherawat?
I think she’s beyond advice. No point.
What do men bond over?
Cars, women…
So you do talk about women?
Oh yeah, all the time, Locker room conversations et al. However, I could never kiss and tell. I hate boastful men. I could never be friends with them. That’s uncool. And gossiping is to the point of fun, not ruining someone’s reputation.
Have you ever had your heart broken?
Yes. It was a crucial time in my life, which made me want to be something. It made me realise that life is no fairytale and that you shouldn’t try to hold on. You have to learn to let go because it’s probably not meant to be.
What was your first kiss like?
Awkward. I think I was 8 or 9, yes I started young and I guess it’s scarred me for life. Look at what I’m doing now! I haven’t stopped ever
since...
Have you changed your son’s diapers?
I’ve tried once it was a mess.
Do you gossip?
I’m a real bitch about everything. King size! I love ripping things apart. |
